Sikkens, Clearcoat Blending

Spot Repairs with Autobase®

Alternate Process using Basefix® 790

It is also possible, prior to applying Autobase basecoat and fading out, to spray 1 or 2 thin coats of Basefix 790 mixed with 100 parts by volume of Blending Agent 790 or Autocryl Reducer. Flash off at least 5 minutes, then follow directions on application of basecoat.

Using this reduced Basefix 790 insulates sensitive substrates and spraying metallic orientation coats of the Autobase metallic into this clearcoat will result in an invisible blend as far as color, flip tone and effect are concerned. For more information on Basefix 790, please refer to TDS #6.12 or #6.12 LV for Southern California.

Autobase is sufficiently dry to clearcoat after 15-20 minutes at 70°F (20°C). Tack the entire repair area.

Application of Clearcoat

For this example we have chosen Autoclear II.

Blending of Clearcoat

For Autoclear II:
If other clearcoats are used, these procedures should also be used.

After Treatment

After the repair is completely dry, the fade out area (if any) may be polished with an ultra-fine polishing compound and waxed. (Please see Dry-To-Polish time of the products used.)
