Sikkens, Color Blending
A three step pearl color consists of 3 layers.
The term spot repair is understood to include all repairs to damaged areas resulting in the repaired area blending invisibly into the still intact existing finish. As a result, the car refinisher is not compelled to spray large panels in the case of minor damage. The spot repair technique also enables minor difference in color and effect between the original car finish and the repair to be made invisible.

Clean all areas: first degrease with M600. In areas where VOC emission regulations apply, use recommended pre-cleaning product. |
| In the above drawings, area "A" is the area under repair. Shape it and build up the area using the appropriate products. After the products have dried, sand the area under repair "A" as well as the adjacent area "B." When spot repairs are made, wet sanding by hand is preferred. | |

Sand areas "A" and "B" with waterproof #P600 to #P800 grit
paper wet. Thoroughly scuff areas "C" and "D" (whole panel) with a grey
scuff pad, Blend-Prep and water. If blending of the clearcoat is inevitable
(sail panels), apply some Blend-Prep on a damp sponge, and scuff until gloss
is removed. Thoroughly clean then degrease with M600. In areas where VOC emission regulations apply, use recommended pre-cleaning product. |

Prior to applying the fade out coats, it is also possible to add to the ready to spray color 100 parts by volume reduced Autobase Binder 666 using the 1 to 1 mixture of Autobase Solid Color with Autobase Binder 666. This will make the foundation color transparent, facilitating a more uniform blend with the foundation color. Application of Autobase foundation color will be identical, up until pictogram #6 in the preceding application process.

*
Note: Please do not use this mixture with Autobase Reducer.

Do not add extra reducer to the Autobase Pearl Color. Fade out as described above. After each application, remove dry overspray with a tack rag.
Autobase foundation color and pearl color and fading out, to spray 1 to 2 thin coats of Basefix 790 mixed with 100 parts by volume of Blending Agent 790 or Autocryl Reducer, flash off at least 5 minutes then follow directions on application of basecoat.
Using this reduced Basefix 790 as a clear sealer coat insulates sensitive substrates and spraying the Autobase in this clearcoat will result in an invisible blend as far as color, flip tone and effect are concerned.
For more information on Basefix 790, please refer to TDS #6.12 LV for California.
