Spraying Plastic Car Parts - Autocryl®/Autobase® Systems

Primer PO

Description

Primer PO is a fast drying, transparent, adhesion primer. Specially designed for flexible plastic car parts manufactured from polyolefine, polypropylene and ethylene propylene modified. Primer PO should be used only on those plastic parts that have no existing primer or other coating applied.

Application
  1. Contains special polyester resins, xylene and other ingredients.
  2. Primer PO is ready to spray
    HVLP: 1x1
    HVLP Siphon: 0. 071" - 0 .087 " (1 .8 - 2.2 mm)
    HVLP Gravity: 0.051" - 0.059 " (1 .3 -1.5 mm) Max 10 psi (max 0.8 bar)
  3. (non-sanding) Flash: 5 - 10 minutes at 70° F (20° C)
  4. Apply top coat

Suitable Surfaces

Primer PO will adhere to the following unpainted substrates:
PO= Poly olefin
PP = Poly propylene
PE = Poly ethylene
PP/EPDM = Ethylene propylene diene modified
PP/EPM = Ethylene propylene modified
TPO = Thermal poly olefine

Note : 
Primer PO should not be applied to previously finished (coated) plastic parts.

Surface Preparation

Degrease with Sikkens Anti-Static Degreaser. In areas where VOC emissions regulations apply, use recommended pre-cleaning product. Thoroughly abrade substrate with a grey scuffing pad and Sikkens Plastic Fix. Degrease again with Sikkens Anti-Static Degreaser. Please refer to TDS #6.27, Degreasers and Cleaners.

When degreasing and cleaning unpainted plastic parts, allow the part to dry out for 20-30 minutes after the application of degreaser and before the application of Primer PO.

Mixing Ratio: None, product is ready to use.

Spray Viscosity: ZAHN cup #2 (13-14 sec. DIN cup #4) at 70° F (20°C).

Pot Life: One year if stored in closed container.

Application Method

Spray only one thin single flowing coat. There is no benefit from spraying a second coat. Allow this to set for 5 to 10 minutes and proceed with top coat.

Cleaning of Equipment

Clean with Sikkens Cleaning Solvent or lacquer thinner.

Recoatability

Without sanding, Primer PO can be recoated after 5-10 minutes flash-off at 70 °F (20° C) with Colorbuild, Autosurfacer 940 HS, Autosurfacer Non-Sanding, Autosurfacer LV Sealer, Autocryl, Autobase or Autocoat LV. When using these products over plastic parts, they must have a flexible additive. Please see the TDS relative to the product chosen.

Note:
After 16 hours at 70° F (20° C), abrade with grey scuffing pad and reapply Primer PO.

Cover Rate: Approximately 70 sq. ft./liter of Primer PO per single coat.

Notice:
Do not handle until the Material Safety Data Sheets have been read and understood. Regulations require that all employees be trained on Material Safety Data Sheets for all chemicals with which they come in contact. The manufacturer recommends the use of an organic vapor respirator or air supplied respirator when exposed to vapors or spray mist.
