Plas-Stick^™ Flexible Adhesion Sealer 2340S

Desciption

Plas-Stick^TM Flexible Adhesion Sealer 2340S is part of a system of products designed to improve the adhesion, chip resistance and flexibility of ChromaSystem^TM products over semi-flexible and fully-flexible plastics.

Components

• 12305S - ChromaPremier^TM Activator
• 1075S - ChromaSystem^TM Low Temp Reducer
• 12365S - ChromaPremier^TM Fast Reducer

Mix Ratio: (4: 1: 1)

Mix 4 parts 2340S to 1 part ChromaPremier^TM Activator 12305S to 1 part ChromaSystem^TM Low Temp Reducer 1075S or ChromaPremier^TM Fast Reducer 12365S.

Additives

Tinting: Not recommended.

Application

Substrates (Flexible Fascia Substrates)

1. Pre-primed
   2340S may be applied directly to properly prepared pre-primed plastics.
2. Unprimed Non-Polyolefin /Thermoplastic & Thermoset Plastics (TPU, PUR, PC)
   2340S may be applied directly to properly prepared thermoset and thermoplastic urethanes and polycarbonate plastics.
3. Unprimed Polyolefin-Plastics (TPO, PR EPDM)
   Do not apply 2340S direct to unprimed polyolefin plastics. Plas-Stick^TM Plastic Adhesion Promoter for Plastics. 2322S must be applied prior to the application of 2340S.

Surface Preparation

All plastic substrates must be thoroughly cleaned in the following manner:

• Wash with mild detergent and hot water.
• Clean with Plas-Stick^TM Plastic-Prep 2319S to further remove mold release agents. Use a clean cloth for this step and repeat applications if needed.
• Sand thoroughly with P500 - P600 grit paper and follow with a gray scuff pad.
• Reapply 2319S to remove sanding sludge and to eliminate static.
• Wipe dry.

Tips for Success

• To test the surface preparation, pour a cap of 2319S on the prepared area. 2319S will sheet cleanly over a clean substrate. If 2319S beads up, the surface is not clean.
• For difficult-to-clean and textured plastics, temper the substrate for 30 minutes at 140° F after cleaning and sanding (if applicable). This may be helpful in driving out further mold release agents. Do not sand after tempering. Reapply 2319 S after tempering.
• Use a clean cloth for applying and wiping 2319S.
• If the part is pre-primed, try to avoid cut-throughs. If cut-throughs occur, complete the surface prep procedure and follow the recommended Plas-Stick^TM refinishing system designated for the unprimed plastic substrate you are working with.

Note:
Tempering is not beneficial for urethane parts (PUR) due to "post cure" temperatures In excess of 140° F.

Caution:
Do not use solvent-based cleaners on unprimed plastic or fiberglass (i.e., 3900S, 3901S, 3919S, 3939S) due to static buildup and the potential for flash fire.

Application

• As a flexible adhesion sealer:
  Apply one medium coat and allow proper dry time.
• As a leading-edge chip-resistant primer:
  Apply two medium coats with a 5-minute flash between coats and allow proper dry time.

Tips for Success

For maximum performance, 2340S should be used as part of a system, with an activated basecoat and a fully-flexibilized clear or a fully-flexibilized single-stage.

Flash/Dry Times

Force Dry

2340S should be force dried for 30 minutes at 140° F prior to topcoating to ensure topcoat holdout and to avoid recoat lifting.

Air Dry

• 2340S must air dry for two hours prior to topcoating to ensure topcoat holdout and toavoid recoat lifting.
• 389S may be added (1oz. per ready-to-spray quart) to reduce air dry time to 30 - 45 minutes.

Note:
Improper cleaning and surface preparation will result In poor adhesion, and will result in lifting when topcoated.

Blending

2340S may be used as a leading-edge, chip resistant primer by over-reducing and using proper gun technique.

Recoatability/Re-Repair

• 2340S has a recoat lift window between 45 - 90 minutes. All air dry applications require two hours air dry to avoid recoat lifting and to ensure good topcoat holdout.
• 2340S should be scuff sanded if allowed to dry more than 8 hours.

Sanding

• 2340S may be nib sanded after 2 hours air dry or after 30 minutes force dry at 140° F
• The use of 389S can reduce the time to nib sand to 30 - 40 minutes air dry.
• 2340S must be scuff sanded if not topcoated within 8 hours.

Cleanup

Clean spray equipment as soon as possible with DuPont Lacquer Thinner.

Follow respirator manufacturer's directions for respirator use. INDIVIDUALS WITH HISTORY OF LUNG OR BREATHING PROBLEMS OR PRIOR REACTION TO ISOCYANATES SHOULD NOT BE EXPOSED TO THIS PRODUCT. Do not permit anyone without protection in the painting area. This product is intended for industrial use only by professional, trained painters.
